Life Lately- Spring 2017

Hi friends! Happy June! June?!?! 😬 Okay, so when I wrote my first quarterly life update post in December, the next one should have been in March. Oopsy! Life got a little crazy around here, but in a good way! In addition to being in my third trimester of pregnancy while completing our second One Room Challenge, we've had something else pretty big going on behind the scenes, and another exciting thing to announce! Needless to say, I've been a little preoccupied! But I'm so excited to finally give you the full scoop on everything! I'm also going to try a new format for these posts that I've seen on a few other blogs lately. Hopefully it will not only give you a little glimpse behind the scenes, but also help you get to know me as a person better! Sometimes I feel like blogs are so focused on projects and decor that it creates this idea that bloggers have this Pinterest perfect life that's just not real! Yes, I may clean up my house before I snap pictures for you, but helllooooo, there's a real life person over here behind this computer screen 🙋 And I promise you, I am completely imperfect!! So I hope you'll enjoy getting to know me aside from my projects and decorating tastes! Okay, let's cut to the chase!

Our family

The biggest (no pun intended) update for our family lately, is obviously the bump! Well, I'm excited to say that the bump is gone and baby is here!!! Jackson Elliott decided to join us on May 31st! He made a pretty dramatic entrance into this world, so if you love birth stories, stay tuned for the story in a few weeks!

This pregnancy certainly wasn't as easy as my first and was starting to catch up with me, so I'm actually thankful that baby Jack decided to make his debut a little early. Throughout my pregnancy, my midwives told me that I would likely make it to my due date since my first son was eight days late. Initially, I was hoping they were right because my little sister's wedding was 10 days before my due date! Now that he's here, I of course couldn't imagine it any other way! Jack was born three days before the wedding and on my sister's birthday! It's like he was meant to join the celebration!!! (Pardon the blurry cell phone pic, but I am in love with this picture!)

I'm so thankful the timing worked out that I was still able to go to my sister's wedding. I can't imagine missing her big day. If Jack had come one day later, I might not have been able to make it. Everything worked out so perfectly! And the wedding was beautiful. They had a gorgeous day with a rustic boho vibe. I couldn't be happier for my sister. Her fiancé is absolutely perfect for her and our whole family couldn't be more thrilled that she met him. (PS- in case you missed it, take a peek at her floral garden themed bridal shower and the wildflower seed packet party favors I made!) Also, can we just talk about that macrame altar for a sec?! My sister made that! I am soooo impressed! Every little detail of this wedding was absolutely gorgeous.

So as you can probably imagine, the first week has been a whirlwind! Most people don't deliver a baby and then go on a trip, much less be in a wedding! As thankful as I am to have been there, this weekend kicked my butt, and this week I am focusing on resting, relaxing, and letting it sink it that we are a family of four now! Big brother Cade is very excited about "baby bubber." This picture of their first encounter melts my heart. The very first thing Cade did was touch Jack's toes! 😍

Cade is 18 months old and a wild man!! It's so much fun watching him learn and grow. He is talking so much these days and is getting into everything. This momma is going to have her hands full for a while 😉

So, I actually wrote this post the night before I went into labor... it was more about pregnancy updates since I hadn't had the baby yet, which means I was able to share our maternity/family photo sessions throughout the post. I am so in love with these photos of such a special time in our lives that I just have to share a few anyway! 1783 Photography did an amazing job capturing our family!

Our house

We recently gave our master bathroom a much needed update for the One Room Challenge. I hated that bathroom and it looks SO much better! But the real reason we updated it was for resale value! Because we're selling our house! 😳😳😳 Ahhhhh! We must be crazy right?! I'm sure some of you picked up on the fact that I was doing a guest bedroom makeover instead of designing a nursery. Again, it was more for staging purposes. And what's the point of setting up a nursery when the baby won't even sleep in it for at least four months (that's what we did last time around anyway) and we probably won't be in this house by then!

When we bought our home four years ago, it was our five year plan. We fell in love with the big back yard but we knew the layout of the home wouldn't work for us for long once we had more than one kid. While it's technically four bedrooms, the fourth room is downstairs and is really tiny. None of the bedrooms are large enough for kids to share. And we live far from my family, so a guest room is essential. Well, we are a year earlier than planned, but the real estate market was telling us that now is the time to sell! Things in our area are selling quickly and at higher than what we paid four years ago. We were afraid if we waited another year, we would lose our opportunity. The market can change so quickly!

So although we were expecting a brand new baby, we've spent the last six months prepping our home to sell! We chose to list at a time that we knew the closing date would give us enough time to settle in with the baby before we have to move out. So although it will be a little chaotic, I think the timing will work out fine. And when it's your second baby, you're not nearly as stressed about baby stuff anyway. I found the newborn stage to be the easiest last time around, so I would rather move in the early stages while I can still easily wear the little one in a carrier and get around. Call me crazy, but I think it's all going to work out justttt finnnnne 😊 Not to mention I am SUPER excited to have a new house to transform since I'm running out of things to do with this one!

Blog life

What's going on on the blog front these days? It's been tough to keep up lately! I am trying to post at least once a week during this busy time and will try my best to keep that up through the next few crazy months! Once we settle into a routine and a new house, I promise you lots more house projects and posts! You'll likely see more frequent mom/baby related posts as well. I know not all of my readers enjoy those posts, but I'm a mom and don't have time for crafting 24/7 anymore, so sometimes it's refreshing to just share things I have found helpful as a mom in hopes that it might help someone else too.

Currently, I am...

Reading- My sister-in-law loaned me The Magnolia Story and I've been trying to slowly make my way through it, but since it's been so busy I haven't had much time!!! A co-worker told me that the audio version is 10x better because it's soooo Chip and Jo, so I might try giving it a listen instead of trying to read!

Binge watching- LOST on Netflix. My husband and I don't watch much TV. We like HGTV, Food network, and baseball season. But every now and then we find something on Netflix to be addicted to and right now it's LOST. It's one of those shows that some people hate and some people love. We clearly are lovers since this is our second time binge watching it! 😁 The last time was five years ago and I forgot how good that show is! Keeps me on my toes!

Listening to- Weirdly enough, I'm in a country music phase. I grew up hating country music and when I met my husband I wasn't that enthused about him liking it. But somehow lately, my tastes have changed drastically and I've even caught myself playing country in the car by myself a few times! Who is this person I've become?!  😂 I've been jamming out to the Eric Church station on Amazon Music.

Creating- I've got a fun Monthly DIY Challenge coming up for you next week, but other than that I'm not creating much until we move! BUT I'm doing lots of daydreaming about a future home and I've been putting together a plan for the nursery. I'll be sharing the design plan with you soon!! Follow me on Pinterest, and you might catch some of the things that are inspiring me!

Learning- to be patient. Patience is not one of my strongest character traits 😂 With so much going on lately, and so much that is completely outside of my own control, I'm striving to be patient and just let things unfold.

Wearing- lots of maternity dresses! They are so comfy, especially at this time of year. I shared my favorite place to buy maternity dresses earlier this week. And now that baby is actually here I'm on a hunt for summer nursing dresses. Right now I'm loving this nursing top and plan to order a few more!

Loving- black with wood tones. I just love the modern farmhouse look we have going in the kitchen, pantry, and laundry room in this house. I've been daydreaming about how to implement it in other rooms once we have a new place. Keep an eye on my Pinterest profile and you might see some of the things inspiring me!!!

Check back soon for a Monthly DIY Challenge project, a birth story, and more info about our move as things unfold!!! Cheers, friends! :)
