Wedding Wednesday- Using shutters as a seating card display

Wedding Wednesday | Meet the B's

Hey there! Happy Wednesday!!! Hope you're all having a great week! The last seven days have been crazy busy for me, and I'm so glad that it's officially fall so I won't feel bad when I curl up on the couch with a warm blanket, a cup of coffee, and a good book today! There's just something about fall that's so relaxing and cozy!

Wedding Wednesday will be winding down soon. I've got a couple of DIY projects left and then a few other things I want to share. If you've missed the previous posts, you can catch up on the wedding page!

I've already shared our DIY seating cards, so today I want to share the antique shutters they were displayed on!

I give major props to my dad here. This display couldn't have been created without him. So if you're not handy with tools, make friends with someone who is before you attempt this ;) Thanks, Dad!

My parents found some old shutters on Craiglist. My dad cut them directly in half and added some small hinges to the back to create the bi-fold look.

The shutters were already old, weathered, and distressed, so they just needed a color change. My dad mixed half paint and half water in a jar and shook it up. He painted the shutters with his grey-wash mixture. Done! Sounds easy, right (as long as you know how to use that saw thingy)?! Who knew my dad was so crafty?!?!?

If you use shutters that aren't already distressed, then after grey-washing (or whatever color you choose), you can use sand paper to lightly distress the edges and corners. You could also use a dry-brushing technique in a lighter color to add a little more texture to the look.

I'm so in love with how these shutters turned out and have been brainstorming ideas for what I can use them for now that the wedding is over. Maybe I'll display Christmas cards on them or use them to hold my earrings. How would you repurpose them?

  2. This is one of my favs yet! We used shutters to hold notes from our guests that we then put in a guest book. I love the look!
