Monthly DIY Challenge- Painted lavender canvas

Wooooohoo! It's that time of the month (no, not that time of the month). Welcome to the Monthly DIY Challenge! If you've missed it in the past, a group of my friends and I choose a challenge item or theme, and the second Wednesday of each month, we each share our creations! This month's challenge item was canvas!!! Check out 12 creative and pretty ways to use canvas!
11 Beautiful DIY canvas projects! #monthlydiychallenge

The front room in our house (which has been dubbed "the fireplace room") is the only room downstairs that we've done nothing to since moving in. It still has all of my old super modern college furniture. Soooo not my taste anymore! Over the past couple of months, I've been working on turning this room into a kid-friendly and cozy future play area with design elements that are a little more my style. So far, we've painted the walls, swapped out some of the black and silver accessories for mint and rustic ones, and bought some shelving to fill with toys. We still have a lot to do (like curtains, new furniture, and painting the fireplace), but it's a good start!
When we decided on canvas for this month's challenge theme, I knew right away that it was a great opportunity to create some art for this space. I might be creative, but I am definitely not good at drawing or painting (other than painting walls and furniture)! I was hoping to make something floral, but it needed to be simple enough for my lack of skills. I was inspired by some dried lavender I recently saw and would love to get my hands on, so I decided to try to paint it!

Materials:

-two 8x10 artist's canvases (Michaels / Amazon)

-paint brushes

-pencil

-paint for background (I used Ceramcoat in "seafoam")

-paint for lavender stems (I used Ceramcoat in "lavender" and "light foliage green")

How To:

I started with two 8x10 blank canvases.

I gave them each two coats of paint with Ceramcoat's "seafoam."

Then, I used a pencil to add lines for my stems. I didn't draw the whole picture. I just wanted lines to follow with my paint brush.

Next, I used light green acrylic paint and a thin brush to fill in my lines. I started at the top of each stem and carefully dragged the brush down the line towards the bottom.

Last, I added the lavender flowers. (See, I told you this was easy! Only four steps!) Again, I needed a simple, fool-proof design, so I made the flowers by making a petal shape. To do this, I used an angled brush, aligned it so that the pointed part of the brush was touching the stem, lightly pressed the brush down to touch the canvas, and then lifted it off of the canvas without dragging it. I varied the direction and number of these petal shapes on each stem.

Sounds easy enough, right? I love simple projects!
