How to cut your own planks for shiplap

Have some plywood on hand already or just don't want the home improvement store to cut it for you? Learn how to rip plywood into faux shiplap planks yourself at home.

I recently shared the design plans for my son, Cade's nautical bathroom. One of the things I wanted to incorporate into the design was a faux shiplap wall behind the mirror and vanity. I had never made a shiplap or plank wall before, but I knew the usual method was having a home improvement store rip plywood down into strips for you. However, I had also heard several people complain about the pieces not being cut evenly or straight, so I decided we might as well try to do it ourselves. How hard could it be?

My husband and I were a little nervous about not being able to cut the planks straight, but it turned out to be really easy, and I am so happy with the results! It was also fun to learn something new! :)

Industrial farmhouse walk-in pantry

Guys, the biggest project my husband and I have ever taken on is DONE! It might not seem that big to some, but neither of us had ever done any sort of construction, plumbing, or electrical on our own before. To completely reconfigure, rebuild, and redesign this space was a bit daunting at first, and it certainly took us forever, but we couldn't be more happy with how it turned out!

You can read more about our plan to convert our small, bi-fold door laundry closet into a full walk-in pantry and laundry room here. There are still a few minor things left to do, like finishing the trim paint and maybe adding a couple more decorative items to the walls, but we are going on vacation soon, and I'm so excited that I just can't possibly wait until we get back and finish those extra details before I share it all with you!

So, just for a little refresher, here's a reminder of what it looked like before...

DIY Rustic Wall Mounted Spice Rack

If you've been around here much lately, you've heard me complain about how long our laundry room and pantry renovation has taken. But, I have to admit, the past two months or so of it being finally so close to done has been fun! All of the little details of a big project are my favorite part! With the laundry room, the DIY chicken wire light fixture and the rustic ironing board hanger were my favorites. For the pantry portion of this renovation, the wood burned storage crates and the DIY spice racks I'm sharing with you today are my favorite small touches that pull the whole room together.

How to give your walk-in closet a makeover

Every girl's dream is to have a big spacious, organized walk-in closet. When we bought our home, I was more than a little excited that our new master bedroom had a walk-in. However, it quickly became cluttered and overflowing, leaving little to be excited about. When my friends and I recently decided to do stencils as our Monthly DIY Challenge, it inspired me to finally give the closet a little attention and turn it into the pretty space I had daydreamed about!
