Chalk-painted Jewelry Box

Hey, ya'll! Happy spring! It's still 40 degrees here, and we had snow on the actual first day of spring, but the daffodils are starting to pop up through the soil, so I have hope!!!
It's been a super busy spring so far! We are working hard on our big laundry room project, so I haven't had much time for other projects lately. So, today I'm sharing a project that I meant to share a few months ago!!! Jeez, where does the time go?!
Remember that pretty purple and grey chalk-painted dresser my mom and I worked on together? Well, we ended up with a decent amount of extra purple paint (you can see more details on how I custom made the color in that post!) from the knobs, so we looked around the room and decided to give her old jewelry box a face-lift too!!

I wasn't entirely sure if the paint was going to stick because the jewelry box is definitely not made of real wood. However, chalk paint doesn't usually require a primer, so I had hope that this would work!

We took out each of the drawers and took the glass out of the hinged door. We gave each part two coats of paint.

And here she is!

I love how the little miniature hardware really pops now. It was hardly a feature before paint!

And she looks perfectly lovely on my moms newly painted dresser!

Pantry & Laundry Room- Part I

In my last post, I mentioned we have been super super busy working on our first big project! Well, it's nowhere near complete, but I just wanted to share some progress with you!

You may have seen this picture before, in my home tour page. This view is in our kitchen. That door on the left goes to the garage. Those (super annoying) bi-fold doors (that always get stuck) hide our pantry/laundry. Yep, both. From the beginning we've wanted to do something about this. We don't like having laundry in the kitchen because clothes and laundry baskets pile up. It's also really weird to put food in the same place as your laundry. There is so much moisture in the air from the washer. So most of our food goes in cabinets in the kitchen. We would love to have a real laundry room and a real pantry.

Hi there! We are hopefully getting things back to normal this week now that we've had a chance to recover from vacation!! I'm loving all of the spring projects being linked up!!! Check out some of the lovely features below!!

Jamaican Vacation

Hello, friends! Long time, no see! Wondering where on Earth I've been?! Well, my husband and I just got back from a fabulous trip to Jamaica with some of our friends! And the rest of February was spent working hard on our biggest project yet!!! Our project isn't ready yet, but I would love to share the progress with you! First, I want to show you a few snippets of our vacation. Then, check back in a few days to see what we've been working on!!!

These photos are all unedited (because who has time to do that when they get back from vacay?!) so bear with me here ;)

Sandals Grande Riviera in Ocho Rios, Jamaica

We went to Sandals Grande Riviera in Ocho Rios, Jamaica with two other couples. We had been debating whether to join them or not for months and months and decided at the last minute that we were desperately in need of some relaxation!

I'm so glad we decided to go! It was beautiful and so much fun! We had never really been on a trip together with friends, so we really enjoyed it!

The weather was perfect the entire time. It rained a little bit in the mornings, as it always does in the Caribbean, but the only bad weather was the day we left, so it didn't interrupt our fun at all!

We all went to the Dunn's River Falls one of the days which was really fun! We road over on a party boat, did a little snorkeling on the way, and then climbed the falls.

It was hard work, but so worth it! The falls were gorgeous!

(In case you were wondering, I took photos at the falls using my super old Canon PowerShot with this waterproof case I bought on Amazon years ago! I highly recommend looking for one to fit your camera! Great for beaches, pools, snorkeling, and some are even approved for scuba!)

We also spent plenty of time in the water at the resort. There are three different swim up pool bars, and you can also get drinks at the beach. Needless to say, we had tons of fun!

Grande Riviera has plenty of restaurant options too. Some very casual, some a little fancier. Us ladies enjoyed being able to dress up a bit :)

I was too afraid to bring my SLR camera for some reason, but thankfully, my friend Jenny brought hers and got a few great pics of my hubby and I!

Pete and I also took advantage of spending a little time alone, especially in the mornings. This was really great for us because between my crazy work schedule and all of our other obligations, we don't get as much time together as we would like. It felt so good to relax together and be able to just be us.

We had such an awesome time with some of our best friends in such a beautiful place! I'm so thankful that we are able to enjoy experiences like this!

Now I just have to train myself to stop saying "Yah, mon!" after every sentence ;)
