Housewarming gift- Canvas last name sign

If you've been around here very long, you've probably realized that I love to make handmade gifts. Especially housewarming gifts! There's just something heartwarming about receiving something that was personalized just for you, and it's even more fun to be the one giving the personalized gift! I love giving housewarming gifts because usually when you are moving into a new place, you are in desperate need of cute little things to take up that big new empty space... artwork, planters, etc.

So a few months ago, I went to visit a friend of mine to meet her new little bundle of joy and to see her new home for the first time! What an exciting time!!!

I wasn't exactly sure what to make for her because I hadn't seen her home decor before. I had no idea what her decorating tastes were! So I decided to go with neutral colors because you can never go wrong there!!

I used DecoArt's Chalky Finish in "primitive" to paint a canvas.

Then I used my usual text transfer method to put her family's last name and established date. For details on how to do this, just visit my text transfer tutorial!

For the main font, I chose to use Feel Script. This is the font I used on our wedding invitations and all of our wedding signs, and I remember when we received their wedding invite in the mail the next year, I thought, "hey, I know that font!" So even though I didn't know her decorating tastes, at least I knew she would like this swirly pretty font ;)

After tracing the lettering, I went back over it with a black archival marker.

  1. How sweet! I love projects that can be completed easily and are just enough to let the recipient know that you care.
